Fintech Ireland is partnering with Fintech Wales, The Welsh Government in Ireland, PWC and the British Irish Chamber of Commerce to convene key players from the Irish and Welsh fintech ecosystems to explore key challenges and discuss best practice in international scaling. Wales is home to an abundance of household fintech names including Go.Compare, Admiral, Money Supermarket, Confused.com, Monzo, Startling Tandem and Zero.

Peter Oakes is a financial services expert focused on banking, payments, emoney, MiFID, fintech, regtech & distributed ledger technology. Peter is the founder of Fintech Ireland, Fintech UK and US TechFin. He is a non-executive director of leading regulated fintech and wealth management firms including Susquehanna (MiFID), AWM Wealth Advisers (MiFID), Optal Financial Europe (Emoney) and TransferMate (PSD). Peter is a consultant on finserv and fintech to international law firm Armstrong Teasdale and works on fintech authorisation applications across Europe, particularly Ireland, UK and Lithuania (where he advised on Lithuania 2nd specialise bank licence). Peter has a deep central bank and regulator background including inaugural Director of Enforcement and Financial Crime at the Irish Central Bank (2010-2013), senior regulator and central bank roles in the UK (FSA), Australia (ASIC) and Saudi Arabia (SAMA). He continues to work with regulators on supervisory and enforcement strategies. Peter is a solicitor admitted in the UK, Ireland and Australia.

  • Meet the fintechs/regtechs - 2 x Irish fintechs and 2 x Scottish fintechs will take to the stage to explain their business models, the challenges they are trying to solve with fintech/regtech and their journeys to date.
  • Panel Session 1 (moderated by Fintech Ireland) - Session with the 4 fintechs/regtechs unpacking the points made during their updates, where they see the industry heading and what government and other stakeholders can do more to advance fintech. 
  • Panel Session 2 (moderated by Fintech Scotland) - Session with selection of banks, investors and other senior level stakeholders on where they see fintech/regtech heading, what opportunities they look for when deciding if and how to partner or invest in fintech/regtech initiatives 
  • Networking
​830pm: Formalities and networking conclude (sure we'll find a spot nearby for those that wish to carry on the conversations and new friendships!)
