There are well in excess of 200 fintechs operating within and from Luxembourg. Fintech is a broad church, however for the purposes of the first Fintech Luxembourg Regulated Fintech Map we decided to limit the definition to electronic money institutions, payment institutions, crypto asset firms and crowdfunding firms that are authorised or registered by the CSSF (i.e. Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier, Luxembourg).
The Map is curated by Peter Oakes and presented by Fintech Luxembourg and CompliReg. There are 40 regulated fintech appearing on the Map, including 11 emoney firms, 14 payment firms and 15 virtual asset services providers. The data source is the CSSF. There are no crowdfunding firms shown. This is because there are none recorded as authorised by the CSSF. The Map is issued as at 13 January 2025. With respect to crypto asset firms, these are currently limited to registered ‘virtual asset services providers’ as there are no MiCAR crypto asset services providers as yet authorised by the CSSF.
