MAP and SURVEY

16 March 2018 - The current version of the Fintech Ireland Map is V1.5, released 16 March 2018.  The Map was created by Dave Anderson of Fintech Ireland. The Map has developed into Ireland's default fintech ecosystem map and is seen in the hands of government officials, embassies, trade associations, professional bodies, recruiters and consultants in Ireland and around the world. We have spotted the map in third party presentations and social media in Australia, Africa, UK, USA Copenhagen and Ireland! Some of places where the Fintech Ireland Map has been spotted appear in our gallery below. We'll add more as we spot them. If you see the Map being used, take a snap and email us the picture please.

We are pleased to announce our
Fintech Ireland Survey coinciding with the launch of our latest Fintech Ireland Map (Version 1.5).

The Survey (cum Census) is being performed to take the pulse and report back on the Irish fintech ecosystem.  It's a continuation of our work to get to know the indigenous environment. The current Survey is aimed at fintech companies founded in Ireland - both in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. With a few tweaks, we can expand the survey to capture international fintech companies which have made the Island of Ireland their home. We ask you to encourage Irish fintech companies to complete Survey for the benefit of the Irish fintech ecosystem.

Following our earlier post on the European Commission's Fintech Action Plan, here is the proposal for a regulation on crowdfunding, adopted by the European Commission on 8th March 2018.  The proposal for a regulation on crowdfunding will enable crowdfunding platforms to easily provide their services across the EU.

Platforms will have to comply with only one set of rules, both when operating in their home market and in other EU countries. For investors, the proposal will provide legal certainty as regards the applicable protection rules.

The proposal and associated documents are below:

  • Commission proposal for a regulation on European Crowdfunding Service Providers (ECSP) for Business
  • Commission proposal for a directive amending MiFID 2
  • Impact assessment accompanying the proposals

The European Commission unveiled on 8th March 2018 an Action Plan on how to harness the opportunities presented by technology-enabled innovation in financial services (FinTech).

Below you'll find the European Commission's FinTech Action Plan and ancillary documents published on 8th March 2018.  The objective of the Fintech Action Plan is to help the financial industry make use of the rapid advances in technology such as blockchain and other IT applications and strengthen cyber resilience. A key outcome is to benefit consumers, investors, banks and new market players.

Hi All - we have updated some of these links below because for some reason the EC thought it a good idea to rename some of their webpages, meaning you might get a broken link.  Unhelpfully, the EC didn't include any assistance on the landing page to the new location on its website. If that happens, try the 'Link 2' and "Link 3" options.  Thanks, Fintech Ireland.

Download the IFS2020 Action Plan

The Irish Government, Minister of State for Financial Services and Insurance Michael D’Arcy TD, Tuesday 30 January launched the Government’s IFS2020
Action Plan for 2018

Launched in 2015, the IFS2020 Strategy is a five-year Strategy for the development of Ireland’s international financial services
(IFS) sector.  Download the IFS2020 Action Plan released 30 January 2018.

Fintech Ireland even gets a mention on pages 20, 21 and 40. Yet oddly nobody from  IFS Ireland or the Minister's office approached us in advance of the publication despite being identified as a contributing stakeholder to Action points 28 and 30. We are, with appreciation, referenced at page 40 as "FinTech Ireland are particularly active in the start-up scene, advancing Ireland’s unique ability and leveraging its capacity to become and remain a global centre for FinTech." - thank you Minister and Department of Finance.

A copy of the Minister's statement on the publication of IFS2020, Action Pan 2018 is here.

The below photo is of Peter Oakes, Fintech Ireland, promoting the Action Plan a few days after its publication at a conference overseas.

Update:  On 22 March 2018 the Irish Government announced a Discussion Paper on virtual currencies and blockchain technology.  Click here for more.
